November 23 and 30, 2015

Dear Families,

Thank you all for attending the Parent/Teacher Conferences over the past 2 weeks. If you missed attending a conference- please reach out to the teacher and we will make a time for you to talk to the staff you would like to see.

Now that you have heard all of the strengths and areas of need for your child- please reflect and think about ways you can continue to support the academic, social, and emotional lives of your child.

I know that 2 big themes that often come up at conferences are ORGANIZATION and EFFORT. You can be part of this work.

·         Please check your child’s backpack every day in Grades K-6. It may be necessary to clean it out every day!!!

·         Look for or ask for all school communication every day- all grades.

·         If you notice notebooks or folders that are falling apart or very messy- help to straighten them out, and let us know if you need help getting new supplies- we can provide some!

·         Work on organizational skills at home- cleaning up rooms and desks and closets/dressers. Your children should be independently responsible for organizing their toys (Grades 1-8) and school work (Grades 3-8) and clothing (Grades 3-8). Younger children can practice getting organized with one or two items but can help you organize their things!

·         Please support your child when it is time to do homework- TRYING is the most important part of any assignment.

·         Try not to DO for your children, help them to TRY to do things- little things like learning how to tie a shoe, cleaning up after a meal, practicing an instrument, struggling through a math problem- praise the HARD WORK and EFFORT!

I am looking forward to meeting many of you at the Parent Writing Group on December 3 at 8:30 in the Library!

Finally- HAPPY THANKSGIVING. I know I speak for the staff that we are all very thankful for your support. And, I know I speak for all of you that we are thankful for the remarkable staff at PS126/MA. All of the adults in this community deserve a huge THANKS!

With Respect,

Jacqui Getz
